Measurements

On this page you will find conversions from metric to imperial measurements. Some countries and regions use the metric system (EU, Turkey, Canada etc.), some use imperial or a closely related customary system, such as Burma, Libya and the US. The UK started using the metric system in the mid 1970s but many people still use imperial measurements alongside metric. In the UK have both systems are printed on rulers, jugs and other measuring equipment. Below are some typical conversions.

Distance/height

Measurements are usually rounded when people convert between systems. For example, 6 ft is 182.5 cm and not 2 m. The UK government issued guidance of social distance in both systems in 2020. 1 inch is 2.54 cm. The smaller measurements in inches on a ruler, 1/16 are equivalent to 1.5875 cm (1.6 rounded) so it is easy to get confused. You should be able to use the below to get you converting your own measurements.

Liquid measurements

These measurements have a lot of ambiguity as there are metric and British or American ounces (Oz) and pints, which differ. To try to be helpful all 3 are below. Historically different counties or regions may have had slightly different imperial gauges so the metric system in the 1970s was an attempt to level this.

Weight

The lower basic weights seem the same between the US and imperial measurements. However, in the US, they have a short and a long ton, as well as dry gallons when measuring the volume (volume not a weight). 1 gram is equal to 0.35 oz or 0.0022 lbs. These small measurements are likely to be on seed packets especially when sold internationally. If not ,multiply the gram weight of the seeds by 0.35 (or if you want to very technical, 0.03527396195) to get your answer in imperial Oz.
